Composing an HTML Email

MailPal lets you send emails in both plain text and HTML format:

  • Plain Text emails are those where no special fonts, colors or images are used. All email clients (Outlook™ / Eudora™ / Evolution™, etc. ) can read emails in this format.
  • HTML emails support formatting, special fonts, colors and (with caveates) images. Most, but not all email clients can read emails in HTML format. Also, most email clients will probably not correctly display images embedded in HTML emails.

In short, plain text emails guarantee all recipients will be able to read your personalized emails, while HTML emails allow you to create fancy formatted emails, but without the guarantee that all recipients will be able to read them. Note that these limitations have nothing to do with MailPal.

Step 1: Compose your email using your Microsoft Word™ or Open Office™:

Note that you have to key in the custom field yourself. This is easy - just enclose the name of the custom field with {% and %}. For example, {%name%} denotes the "name" field, while {%email%} denotes the "email" field. You can add other custom fields present in the recipient group(s).

Step 2: When you're done, save the document to HTML format:

Step 3: Open up MailPal and open the "Compose" tab. Then click on the "Link to HTML" button

The user interface should change:

Step 4: Click on "To" and select the groups you want to send this email to. Remember that all groups you select must have all custom fields used in your email in Step 1.

Step 5: Key in the subject line for your email:

Step 6: Click on the "Browse" button and select the HTML file you saved in Step 2:

Step 7: Add any attachments you want to your email

Step 8: When you're done with your email, you can either save it as a draft to be sent later, or send it immediately by pressing the "Send" button. In this case, your email will be placed in the Outbox:
