Composing a Plain Text Email

MailPal lets you send emails in both plain text and HTML format:

  • Plain Text emails are those where no special fonts, colors or images are used. All email clients (Outlook™ / Eudora™ / Evolution™, etc. ) can read emails in this format.
  • HTML emails support formatting, special fonts, colors and (with caveates) images. Most, but not all email clients can read emails in HTML format. Also, most email clients will probably not correctly display images embedded in HTML emails.

In short, plain text emails guarantee all recipients will be able to read your personalized emails, while HTML emails allow you to create fancy formatted emails, but without the guarantee that all recipients will be able to read them. Note that these limitations have nothing to do with MailPal.

Currently, the MailPal email composer only supports plain text emails. You'd have to use a word processing software (Microsoft Word™ or Open Office™) to create HTML emails.

Step 1: Click on the "Compose" tab:

Step 2: Click on the "To" button, then in the "Select Groups" popup, select the groups you want to send this email to. You must select the groups first, since this determines what custom fields are available.

Step 3: Key in the subject line for your email:

Step 4: Key in your email body in the bottom text area:

Step 5: Whenever necessary, click on the "Insert Field" drop list and select a field to insert into your email:

Note that the custom fields displayed in the drop list will only be those common to all the groups you selected. For example, if you select "My Colleagues" with the standard "name" and "email" fields, and "Newsletter Recipients" with fields "name", "email" and "salutation", then only the common fields - "name" and "email" will appear in the drop list.

Step 6: Add any attachments you want to your email

Step 7: When you're done with your email, you can either save it as a draft to be sent later, or send it immediately by pressing the "Send" button. In this case, your email will be placed in the Outbox:
